What is live on momatio.com, where each number came from, and how old it is. Every figure below was read out of the thing that produces it when this page was built — the running API, the 29 research packs, each simulator's own results file. Nothing here is typed in, and anything that could not be read says not measured instead of guessing.

The research packs, checked against the federal record
Every claim a pack makes about charging stations, population or airports is
checked against a federal bulk file the pipeline already holds on disk. The tally below is
summed out of the 29 packs themselves — each one carries its own
federal_cross_check.counts, and this page adds them up rather than repeating a
number from anywhere else. 308 claims were judged across 29 packs;
a further 1,212 records were read straight out of a federal file in the first place, so
re-checking them against the same file would prove nothing and they are counted separately.
| Verdict | Claims | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmed | 191 | the federal file agrees within tolerance (a stall count within 25% or one stall; a figure within 5%) |
| Disputed | 6 | the federal file holds a different figure. Both are printed and the pack keeps its own citation |
| Unconfirmed | 5 | the federal file has no record of the thing claimed. Never read as false: the charger locator is voluntary submission and grant-funded sites lag it |
| Skipped | 106 | hospital claims. No federal hospital file is cached, so they are not judged at all |
The same tally by subject:
| Subject | Confirmed | Disputed | Unconfirmed | Skipped |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airports | 60 | 3 | — | — |
| Chargers | 70 | — | 5 | — |
| Hospitals | — | — | — | 106 |
| Population | 61 | 3 | — | — |
The 11 claims the federal file does not back
Printed, not quietly dropped. A disputed claim means the federal file holds a different figure; an unconfirmed one means the federal file has no record of the thing claimed, which is never read as false — the charger locator is voluntary submission and grant-funded sites lag it by months. No pack value, basis or citation was changed by any of these. How the check works →

What the two town simulators say
Both read the same 29 packs and answer the same question a different way:
would this one thing pay for itself here? The counts below are read off each simulator's own
results.json — one verdict per town, counted, never summed into money.
A simulator is a simulator, not a forecast and not a game.
| Simulator | Pays back | Marginal | Does not | What is being modeled |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fast charger — one two-stall DC fast site | 7 | 2 | 20 | pays back inside 7 years · marginal · does not, in each of the 29 towns |
| Coin laundromat — attended, about 20 washers | 1 | 9 | 19 | someone on the floor 12 hours a day |
| Coin laundromat — the same store run unattended | 19 | 1 | 9 | no wage on the floor; the same towns, the same packs |
| Coin laundromat — if the town had no competitor | 2 | 12 | 15 | a what-if lens, not a forecast: it assumes away every laundromat already there |

What is stale
Ages, read from the files themselves. Nothing on this site refreshes on its own: a research pack is a snapshot of a town on the day it was researched, and every lens on it is only as current as the pack.
- The newest research pack is 2026-09-14 (10 days old) and the oldest is 2026-09-09. A pack is a snapshot of a town, not a live feed: nothing in it refreshes on its own.
- The fast-charger sim was last built 2026-09-18 (6 days ago) from inputs built 2026-09-18.
- The coin-laundromat sim was last built 2026-09-22 from inputs built 2026-09-18 — the run is newer than the figures it read. Re-running the inputs is what picks up a changed pack.
- The prompt library file was last written 2026-09-06 (18 days ago). The count above comes from the running API, not from that file, so the two disagreeing would mean the API has not been restarted.
- Across the 29 packs, 422 citations were fetched and checked when the pack was built and 121 of them did not answer or did not carry the words claimed; 28 packs hold at least one.
- All 121 of those were fetched again by hand on 2026-09-24, one at a time, with a browser's headers and a retry with a back-off. None of them are dead pages. 109 now answer normally, 2 answered on a retry, 5 have moved and the pack now carries the new address, and 5 still refuse our client. 30 of the 121 pass the very same check today — those failed at build time because the host refused us or served a page with no text in it, not because anything was wrong with the citation. The remaining 83 do load and still do not carry the claim's words; the pack keeps the number as its own estimate and keeps the URL, which is what it has always done. 8 could not be read today either.
- A citation is still only checked when the pack is built; nothing re-fetches it on a schedule. The re-check above is a dated snapshot, the same as every other figure on this page.
- The charge-desert research queue on /fleet#suggest was built 2026-09-24T07:12:42Z from a read-only pull of American Adventurer's public API made 2026-09-24T07:05:30Z (that corpus was built 2026-09-24T06:19:08Z, and its charger snapshot is 2026-09-16). It holds 1,158 free camps more than 50 straight-line miles from any open DC fast charger, 1,015 of them snapped to one of 9,023 places, ranked into 79 candidates of which the top 10 are shown. It is a research queue, not a result: the fast-charger sim has not been run on any town in it. Nothing re-runs it on a schedule —
fleet/_build_charge_deserts.py --refreshre-reads the API. - The packs name 74 gaps of their own — numbers the research could not find and did not estimate. They are printed on each town page rather than filled in.
What this page does not say
- No other site’s numbers
- This studio runs four sites and each keeps its own status page. Counts from American Adventurer, TinyCorp Signal or 223 Hampshire never appear here — a number on this page is momatio.com’s own or it is not here.
- Not a forecast
- Every simulator verdict is what the model says given that town’s pack and the assumptions printed beside it on the sim’s own page. It is a planning tool. Change an assumption and the verdict changes, which is the point of it.
- Unconfirmed is not false
- The federal charger locator is voluntary submission. A site that exists and was never submitted reads as “unconfirmed” here, and that is the honest word for it.
- Built, not live
- Apart from the two library counts, which refresh from the API in your browser, the figures on this page were read when it was built. The build stamp at the top is the age of everything else.
