🪨🔬 In 2018 a NASA climate scientist and an astrophysicist asked a serious question in a peer-reviewed journal: if an industrial civilization had existed on Earth long before us, would we be able to tell? They doubted one ever did — and found that our own footprint, seen from fifty million years away, would look uncomfortably like a natural event.

You take up that problem as a researcher. Read cores, chase isotope excursions, and rule on each anomaly: natural, industrial, or not enough evidence. The record fights back — the seafloor keeps nothing older than about 170 million years, and Earth's oldest surviving large land surface is younger than the first stone tools.

Type "fact" at any moment and the game breaks character to tell you what the published record says, where researchers genuinely disagree, and what it invented for the story.

Concluding that there is no evidence — and explaining exactly why we'd probably miss it anyway — is the strongest ending in the game.
