Finding a spot you can actually reach — and knowing whether there’s water, fuel or a dump station within range — usually means a dozen browser tabs and a Forest Service PDF from 2009. The problem
One site lists the forest. Another maybe has a map. Weather is somewhere else, and it’s for the nearest town 3,000 feet lower. Fuel, water and a place to dump are three more apps. Half the “free camping” listings you find are actually fee campgrounds, and nothing tells you whether the road in is passable.

An honest note. Dave hasn’t personally stood at every one of these spots — nobody has. Every page says where its information came from, labels what’s an estimate, and leaves a gap rather than inventing a detail. Check current conditions and closures before you go.
